We Have A Way With Words

United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry

The relationship between PMI and the UA is solidly established, based on a long-time trust and mutual respect. PMI’s staff members have worked with the UA for nearly 30 years, bringing our experience and expertise to an extensive array of projects. PMI works closely with all aspects of the organization’s communication efforts, including the monthly production of the UA Journal, as well videos, brochures, and many other promotional materials.

The UA Journal is an award-winning monthly magazine that features major construction projects throughout the United States and Canada, as well as commentary on important legislative, health, and community issues of interest to the membership.

The UA Journal presents some of the most relevant and challenging writing found in the labor press today and is the preeminent magazine of its type in the field. Working closely with the UA to determine their current organizational needs, PMI members travel throughout the United States and Canada to do original research, reporting, and photography. We then write and edit articles, and manage all aspects of the design and production of the magazine.

American Council on the Teaching

of Foreign Languages

ACTFL, based in Alexandria, VA, is a national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction.

Since its launch in 2006, PMI has been coordinating all aspects of production of The Language Educator, the award-winning magazine published by ACTFL dedicated to the advancement of foreign language education.

A PMI staff member serves as Editor of The Language Educator, managing the article submission and review process, copyediting accepted articles, and supervising design. Working closely with ACTFL, PMI staff research and write original articles on innovative teaching methods and language programs, and other topics that affect ACTFL and the language education community.

PMI staff also work closely with ACTFL in conjunction with their annual convention, helping to prepare various materials such as the official convention program guide in advance of the yearly gathering of more than 6,000 language educators. The Editor and Art Director of The Language Educator offer an educational session at the convention focused on magazine article writing and the submission process. PMI staff also regularly edit and design various books and other publications for ACTFL.
